Changing a Domain Name Out From Under WordPress

We recently changed Chrissy’s shop’s domain name, and it wreaked ravok on their website’s WordPress installation. I pointed the domain to the right path on the web server, but the blog’s settings were wrong in the MySQL database. (All the dynamic links were pointing to the old domain name, including the links to the admin interface.) After some futzing around, I found the necessary tables, columns, and values that needed changing. If you ever change a domain name out from under your WordPress installation, make the following changes to the WordPress DB…

In the MySQL CLI:

update wp_options set option_value=”YOUR BLOG URL HERE” where option_name=”siteurl”;

update wp_options set option_value=”YOUR BLOG URL HERE” where option_name=”home”;

Fox’s Fringe

Chrissy and I watched the premier episode of Fringe last night, and I gotta say I enjoyed it a lot. Essentially, the show is about an FBI agent, a rebellious genius (played by Joshua Jackson), and a whacked out scientist seeking redemption; solving crimes having to do with “fringe science.” It’s basically like the X-Files episodes that didn’t have anything to do with aliens. There’s even an antagonistic FBI chief that the Fringe team doesn’t know if they can trust. (It’s Skinner-iffic!)

Anyway, it’s definitely a show we’re going to continue watching even if the premise isn’t very original. The execution of the premise is quite enjoyable.

*EDITED* Drive-In Premier or Clone Wars Animated Movie

The Raleigh Road Drive-In put on a “Meet R2-D2 and C3PO” event for the premier of Lucasfilm’s Clone Wars animated movie. My kids, and their cousins, got to meet, C3PO, R2D2, Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Kwi Guon Jin, and a couple of Stormtroopers. They had a blast. sadly, I couldn’t attend because I had a gig that night. Anyway, here’s the movie I put together from the footage Chrissy taped.

Strongbad’s Cool Game for Attractive People Released!

Stongbad’s Cool Game for Attractive People has been released to WiiWare today, and on *cough* PC. I’m going to have to purchase this for my Nintendo Wii as soon as I get home. It’s only 1000 Wii points! ($10) I’m make sure to review it as soon as I get some quality play-time.

From the Nintendo site:

“As the star of the Homestar Runner web cartoons, Strong Bad has been answering emails (in boxing gloves), pranking his friends, pummeling his enemies, and making people with questionable taste snort milk out of their noses for years now. And he’s branched out to star in Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, a monthly 5-episode series.”
