Still Using Vervehosting Since 2003

I’m writing this post because I believe that my web hosting provider, Vervehosting, deserves a pat on the back. A couple of my friends didn’t like their service, but I have had nothing but good experiences with their support. Just about every support ticket I have ever submitted has been resolved within 24 hours. (Usually a lot less.) I needed a PERL module installed that wasn’t part of their usual PERL installation, and viola, it was installed. I needed a CNAME record added, and again – in a very short time, they completed the request. I’ve had a couple of issues regarding their online tools, and those issues too were resolved in a more than acceptable time frame. You may be thinking, “well they can’t be that great, you keep having to open support tickets” and you’d be wrong. In 6 years I’ve had 15 support tickets opened. Of those 15, 8 have been a “Low” serverity, and none of the tickets I have opened were for outages. For only $10 a month, I’m very happy with Vervehosting and I highly recommend them.

Obama Dismisses Legalization of Marijuana

Even though the #1 question raised (out of 3.5 million people) on the internet for the President during a “town hall” meeting was about the need to legalize marijuana, President Obama dismissed the idea, insinuating that the question “…says something about the online audience.” Come on Mr. Obama, don’t go all McCain on us.

While I don’t smoke marijuana, polls have shown time and time again that a very large portion of the American people believe that marijuana should be legalized. In a country where smoking, and alcohol is so prevalent, why is marijuana treated any different? Left-over “Reefer Madness” believers I guess.

Nintendo “Fixes” the Wii’s Storage Issue with System Update 4.0

Nintendo just released System Update 4.0 for the Wii, which adds a new channel called the “SD Card Channel.” With this update, you can now run games directly off your SD card instead of having to reinstall the game from the card, to the Wii. The update also adds support for SDHC cards, increasing the allowed SD storage size from 2GB to 32GB.

I’m really glad that Nintendo has done this. Filling up the Wii’s measly 512MB of internal storage doesn’t take long, and moving games on and off a SD card was time consuming and annoying. Smart move Nintendo!

Sci Fi Channel to Become Syfy

In a disgustingly trendy move, The SciFi Channel will be re-branding itself as “Syfy” on July 7th.

Sci Fi president Dave Howe said the network will “embrace our legacy and our core audience” but look to “cultivate a distinct point of view with a name that we could own that invites more people in and reflects our broader range of programming.”

Translation : “Since we have abandoned our delusion that we provide quality SciFi programming, we realized that our current marketing strategy isn’t viable. I mean, we show wrestling for God sakes! How is that SciFi? Seriously, with the exception of Eureka, BattleStar Gallactica, and the Stargate franchise, most of what we broadcast is crap. Our new branding will reflect that.”

Joss and Eliza Interview – Dollhouse Discussed

There’s been a lot of buzz online regarding the 6th episode of Dollhouse. The sixth episode has been rumored to be the episode where Joss was able to really take control of the show’s direction (from Fox), and is also supposed to be the episode where the show really comes together and sets off in its intended direction. Joss Whedon, and Eliza Dushku recently did a panel where they discussed Dollhouse, it’s direction, how it came about, and what other Whedonite actors will make appearances on the show. (Besides Amy Acker, and Dushku.) The “Sixth” episode is mentioned as well with Whedon stating, [the story arch has been warming up since episode 1]…”around episode 6, it starts to boil.”

You can listen to the panel discussion HERE.
