Whining – Guitars

Errrrgh! So, I finally have the guitars I’ve always wanted but now they all need work. The Carvin DC-200 needs its intonation and action fixed. The Peavey Wolfgang Special FR needs its action fixed, and the Peavey Wolfgang Special ST needs its intonation adjusted. Dammit! That’s a big chunk of change to get all that work done. The Carvin was my main axe for years, and has only been tweaked once, so it’s definitely due for some repairs. The Peavey Wolfgang Special FR is a 1998 model, and I’m not suprised it needs some work. (Let’s just say it’s an “experienced” guitar. 😉 ) The Peavey Wolfgang Special ST just needs the Tune-O-Matic adjusted so that it’s intonation will be correct. That guitar is brand new, but sat on a shelf for a long time before it found a home in my office.

Anyway, it looks like I’m gonna have to prioritize what gets fixed first. I can’t afford ~$300 worth of guitar adjustments in one lump. Like I said earlier – Errrrghhh!!!

It’s like comparing Apples and Apples

Apple Corps (the Beatles’ record label and tax shelter) is suing Apple Computer for a third time over the Apple trademark. In the 80’s when Apple Computer was a startup, Apple Corps sued Apple Computer over use of the Apple trademark. A settlement was reached where Apple Corps agreed to “share” the Apple trademark as long as Apple Computer never sold music. Now, with iTunes being a huge money maker for Apple Computer, Apple Corps is suing again. Apple Computer contends that the agreement reached in the 80’s does allow Apple Computer to sell online data transfers, which is all iTunes does.

Legal rangling aside, I don’t know what Apple Corps’ problem is. Apple Corps is not a huge record label that makes it’s money from selling, producing, and packaging music from a wide spectrum of artists. As far as I know, Apple Corps only releases Beatles CDs and DVDs and facilitates the distribution of profits to the Beatles and their heirs. So, with Apple Corps’ only product being Beatles media, and since the iTunes music store does not sell any Beatles media (nor does any other online music store) what are the damages to Apple Corps?

Come on guys, let it go.

SciFi Channel – We have 3 shows

Geez. The SciFi Channel really is a steaming pile of Bantha pudu. They have 3 shows that are good, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, and most of all – Battlestar Galactica. The rest of their programming is overly priced filler. Just about every week they have some new SciFi Pictures Original movie based on, 1) A killer animal of some kind, (remember all the killer mosquito movies like “Skeeter.”) 2) A killer storm of some kind, 3) A dude a sword and a dragon, or finally, 4) A killer animal stalking a dude with a sword in a killer storm. I honestly have a hard time not laughing out-loud everytime I see one of those “SciFi Pictures” commercials while watching Battlestar. They’re just terrible. It’s obvious that the people running SciFi Channel have no idea what a real SciFi fan wants to watch. I do have to give them just a smidge of credit though. Tthey do get it right one day a week, Friday. But that’s only a 14% success rate.

How the hell did I not know about this? (Kramer Guitars)

Gibson/Kramer has been offering a replica of Eddie’s old Custom Kramer since 2003, and I just found out about it today. Sheesh.

The only thing that sucks about the replica, called the “Kramer 1984” is that it doesn’t have an asymetrical neck back.

Disney Buys Pixar

As many of you know, Pixar – a company originally started by Lucasfilm (they created the “Pixar” computer for 3D animation) and then sold to Steve Jobs, has been responsible for the most successful computer animated feature films ever. (Finding Nemo, Toy Story, and The Incredibles just to name a few.) Sometime ago, Pixar announced that they would no longer be distributing their films through Disney and were going it alone. Since Disney no longer had the Pixar cash cow to depend on, they started developing their own CG animated features. (Chicken Little, which was pretty successful, but to the movie fan wasn’t on-par with Pixar’s films.)

On the 24th, Disney issued a press release that they were aquiring Pixar for $7.4 Billion, and that Pixar CEO, Steve Jobs will join the Disney Board of Directors.
