My Bands are coming back?

As many of you know, I'm a huge Van Halen fan. This year, Eddie, Alex, Mike, and Sammy got back together with a new tour and a new Van Halen collection CD with 3 new songs. Obviously, I'm excited.

Just a couple days ago I found out that another of my favorite bands, Living Colour, also got back together. I had given up on Living Colour ever being whole again, but while walking through Coconuts Music the other day I decided to check out their Living Colour section. To my amazment, I found a CD I didn't own, Collideoscope. It was released in 2003 and I didn't even know about it! As soon as I got home, I purchased the CD from the iTunes Music Store. So far, I'm really enjoying the album, and love the remake of AC/DC's "Back in Black" and a re-work of one of Living Colour's own songs, "Sacred Ground." If you're into Living Colour, don't hesitate to pick up this album. It is also rumoured that they will be kicking off their South Eastern part of their tour soon.

Now, if only hell would freeze over, Extreme can get back together and all my favorite "defunct" bands will have reunited! ;-)

iTunes Controller : Freeware!

I recently installed ByteController, a menubar controller for iTunes, on my Macs. I really like it. It allows you to control iTunes from your menu bar. You can play, stop, and more forward or back through your library. It is very similar to Synergy except it is free and contains only the essential functions. I recommend installing ByteController if you don't feel like paying for Synergy and only need a utility to control iTunes while the iTunes window is hidden. Download ByteController HERE.

Yup. GarageBand is still cool.

My wife got me the M-Audio 49-e MIDI controller for Father's Day and I've been using it a lot with Apple's GarageBand software. Being able to use the software instruments correctly, and efficiently has opened my eyes to the huge potential to create music that GarageBand provides. Since I am a guitar player, and not a keyboardist, I've been mostly tinkering. To my suprise though, I have been able to create some synth sounds I really like. Namely, Van Halen synth tones from Jump, Why Can't This Be Love, and Dreams.

Click HERE for MP3s of the synth tones I created. They are still a work in progress.
